Born in Grajewa, Poland, in 1925, Rita Briansky immigrated to Canada in 1929. In her teens, she studied under painter Jacques de Tonnancour at the Montreal Museum of Fine Art and Jan Carbino and Louis Bosa at the Art Students' League in New York. Briansky often chooses her subject matter from everyday life and finds inspiration in her friends and especially her daughters. She enjoys painting people she knows and attempting to capture their essence in her artwork. Briansky works in many media, including oils and pastel, but she is best known for her copper plate etchings.
