Under the theme of “Celebrating the Arts in our Community”, six ceramic artists (Elora Penland, Debra Sloan, Keith Rice-Jones, Celia Rice-Jones, Gillian McMillan, John Cloutier) worked with Shadbolt Centre staff (Jay Maclennan, Linda Doherty) to create a circular 24-foot mosaic floor medallion. The project features images of theatre, dance, visual arts, music, and the Shadbolt Centre, with each section separated by trees. The total 251 square foot medallion represents a coming together of various arts into the center of Burnaby.
Keith Rice-Jones (b.1943) is a Vancouver based ceramic artist whose current focus is with large sculptural work. Born in England, Rice-Jones received his early training in England as a woodwork teacher. Discovering clay in the early 70s, Keith’s experience with the ceramic arts to date is vast and diverse. In 1988, he moved to Vancouver with his wife, Celia Rice-Jones—an accomplished ceramic sculptor herself. They opened Wildrice studio in the late 80s, and continue to work there today.
