Sybil Andrews (1898-1992) was a British-Canadian artist most known for her linocut prints. In Britain, Andrews worked as a welder in an airplane factory during WWI. Although she could not afford art school, after working a few years she was able to take a correspondence art course. In 1922, she had enough money to enroll at Heatherley’s school of Fine Art in London. She began working in linocuts during this time and exhibited regularly until 1939. In 1947, Andrews moved to Campbell River, BC with her husband. Her linocuts are known for their modernist style, often depicting manual labour in an industrial landscape.
