Liz Magor was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1948. She is currently based in Vancouver. Magor studied at UBC from 1966-1968, and Parson’s School of Design in New York from 1968-1970. She completed her diploma at the Vancouver School of Art in 1971. Magor’s work explores emplacement and the idea of refuge in the context of Canadian wilderness. She won the Governor General’s Visual Arts Award in 2001 and the sixth annual Audain Prize in 2009 for lifetime achievement in visual art. Magor has influenced countless students through her teaching appointments at the Ontario College of Art and Design, the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, the University of British Columbia and the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. She currently lives and works in Vancouver, BC.
