Born in Nelson, BC, Joseph Therrien attended the Vancouver School of Art from 1971 to 1972. Well-known for his extensive knowledge of the art of printmaking, he was forced to change disciplines because of health issues resulting from his printmaking practices and went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia with a Fine Art major in 1980. Although he worked for the majority of his career as a secondary school art teacher, Therrien was Curatorial Assistant at the Burnaby Art Gallery in the 1980s. Therrien has exhibited work throughout the Lower Mainland—including in group shows at the Burnaby Art Gallery and in a solo offsite exhibition at the Bob Prittie Library in 2008. Therrien continues to advocate for the arts in Burnaby and has served on the Burnaby Art Gallery Advisory Committee since 2014.
