Vivienne Kubik was born in England in 1919. After graduating from the Bradford College of Art, she went on to work as a dress designer until World War II, when she became a nurse to help with the war effort. After the war, Kubik married and moved to London, where she worked as a designer in the fashion house Starfrocks. In 1958, she immigrated to Canada with her young family and later began to paint using acrylic and oils. She studied under artists Jack Darcus, Peter Aspell and Wayne Eastcott before attending Emily Carr College of Art and Design and discovering printmaking. She became an active member of the Malaspina Print Society in the early 1980s. In 1987, Kubik suffered a stroke which effectively ended her artistic career.
