Toni Onley was a Vancouver-based painter known mainly for his watercolour landscapes depicting grey British Columbia coastlines. An avid pilot, Onley would fly his small plane all over the coast creating pencil sketches of natural mountain scenes from the air. Many of his landscapes were informed by these flights. Onley was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1999. His work is represented in several public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Gallery in London, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and the Art Gallery of Ontario.
