Arnold Shives is a Canadian visual artist living in North Vancouver, BC. Shives studied at both the University of British Columbia and the San Francisco Art Institute, spending his summer months exploring the remote mountainous areas of British Columbia. In 1996, he completed his MA at Stanford University in painting and sculpture. Since returning to Vancouver he has created a vast body of work, much of which utilizes mountain imagery as its primary focus. His work is in many public collections, including MoMA, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Tate Gallery, the British Museum, the Bibliothéque nationale de France, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. The Burnaby Art Gallery is the single largest public repository of Shives’ works on paper.
