Nobuo Kubota was born in Vancouver, BC in 1932. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Toronto in 1959, and Doctorate of Fine Art, Honoris Causa, from OCAD University in 2011. Kubota is an interdisciplinary artist whose work lies at the boundary of abstract expressionist music, sculpture, sound poetry, architecture, photography, videography, zen buddhism, and performance art. His work is included in the collections of Canada's major art institutions and has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and performances across Canada and abroad. In 2000, he received a Canada Council Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award for his outstanding artistic achievement. In 2009 he was the winner of the Governor General's Award in Visual and Media Arts. Kubota lives and works in Toronto, ON.
