Born in Bassano, Alberta, Robinson studied under A.C. Leighton and H.G. Glyde at the Alberta Institute of Technology and Art, Calgary. He also travelled in Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Turkey in 1950-1951. Working in oil, batik (since 1970), monotypes, linocuts and drawings, he is known for his figures in an expressionist style. His subjects also include urban and farm scenes. He was active as a teacher at the Vancouver School of Art; at the Banff School of Fine Arts; and at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver.
